Had they returned to a village they loved to find that the Germans had burnt the houses just as winter was coming on? Would it have made a difference” in their decisions “if they had?”This is also a book with references to war type missions and military type vocabulary that I thought created confusion But that may just be my own limited background knowledge The story also had so many characters names of those Tom Barnes worked with befriended came across in passing and other such circumstances which added to some of the confusion That being said I did like the story mainly for the narrative about the area and the people of Epirus as well as the humanistic affect on the soldiers and the villagers
